The COVID-19 pandemic has driven a shift in beauty trends in the Personal Care & Aroma (PCA) industry towards health and wellbeing. This was presented by Elline Soetanto, Market Development Manager, Personal Care Solution Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore of BASF and Widyatmoko Prambudi, Head of Technical and Application of Bahtera in the Skin Sanctuary Seminar held in Bali on June 16, 2021.
Customers are looking for natural, safe, and environmentally friendly beauty products that boost personal health. This gave rise to four new consumer trends. First is clean beauty. Customers’ growing concern for the environment has raised interest in plant-based and natural ingredients. Second is skinimalism, where urban customers with busy lifestyle look for multifunctional and multi-benefit essential products for a minimalist beauty routine and less cosmetic waste. Third is wellbeing and mindfulness. Rising awareness on the importance of emotional wellbeing has led customers to look for beauty products that offer both physical and emotional benefits. Last is personalization and techspectation. There’s a growing expectation for personalized product and recommendation for each individual’s skin type using technology.
This trend was broken down in the Secret in Bottles session of the seminar, which was held in Golden Tulip Essential Hotel in Bali by Bahtera in collaboration with BASF. Attended by PCA industry players from PERKOSMI Bali, the event shared latest beauty trends and insights in four sessions presented by experts from Bahtera and BASF. Elline delivered another session, providing an in-depth analysis on the clean beauty trend. Juvenia Su, Technical Sales Representative for PCA from BASF, delivered a presentation on D’Lite3-X, an application by BASF that supports research and development from formulation to market trend tracker. The last session by Elline and Widyatmoko covered men’s grooming trend and a pomade laboratory trial.
