The skincare industry continues to evolve as consumer needs, technology, and emerging trends across Asia Pacific continue to change.

To explore these developments, PT Bahtera Adi Jaya and its principal, BASF, hosted the seminar “The Future of Intelligent Skincare: APAC Trends, Smart Actives, & Innovative Solutions” for Bahtera Adi Jaya customers.

The seminar gave participants an opportunity to explore skincare trends in Indonesia and across APAC, while also learning how active ingredient innovations and formulation technologies can be applied to product development.

Asia Pacific is an important region for the skincare industry. According to BASF materials, the region accounted for 46% of the global skincare market in 2025, with a market value of €70.1 billion projected to reach €87.2 billion by 2030.

These market developments are closely connected to changing consumer expectations. BASF identified several key trends shaping the APAC skincare landscape, including efficacy-led beauty, skin resilience, sensorial wellness, and conscious formulation. At a broader level, personalization, sustainability, digitalization, and holistic health care are also influencing the industry.

One notable shift is the growing focus on product efficacy. Consumers are not only looking for skincare active ingredients with specific claims, but also expecting formulations to deliver experiences and performance that address their individual needs.

This is making skincare development increasingly integrated—from selecting active ingredients to exploring formulation technologies that can help support their performance.

From Smart Actives to Advanced Delivery

During the seminar, BASF introduced several solutions representing different approaches to skincare innovation.

SkinNexus™ Collag3n: A Biotech Approach to Collagen Banking

One of the concepts discussed was collagen banking, an approach focused on proactively maintaining collagen as part of a skincare routine. BASF materials show a 750% increase in global search interest for the term “collagen banking.”

In this context, SkinNexus™ Collag3n was developed as a 100% human-identical Type III collagen fragment. The solution uses a selection process combining computational tools, AI, and experimentation to identify a fragment with high biological potential and industrial scalability.

NeoHelix™ Regenerate: A Smart Peptide for Damaged Collagen

NeoHelix™ Regenerate takes a precision beauty approach through Collagen Hybridizing Peptide (CHP) technology. The peptide is designed to selectively recognize and bind to damaged collagen structures while avoiding healthy collagen.

According to BASF materials, NeoHelix Regenerate can reach the dermis, bind to damaged collagen, and support fibroblast interaction with collagen and the reactivation of cellular signaling.

Emulgade® Verde PE: Supporting Active Delivery

Innovation is not limited to active ingredients. Formulation technology also plays an important role in skincare development. Emulgade® Verde PE is a surfactant blend that enables the formation of niosome vesicles for advanced active delivery.

The technology is designed to simplify the formation of stable niosomes and support the use of hydrophilic actives in formulations. In one test, Emulgade® Verde PE demonstrated improved niacinamide penetration efficiency, with 3% niacinamide delivering a similar absorption amount to 5% niacinamide without the technology.

Insights from BASF Regional Experts

The seminar featured three BASF experts with complementary perspectives:

  • Rita Mok – Regional Marketing Skin Care, Asia Pacific
  • Chutawat Wattana – Bioactives Business Development for ASEAN, South Asia & ANZ
  • Elline Soetanto – Market Development, Personal Care Solutions

Through their regional, bioactives, and market development perspectives, participants gained insight not only into what is trending, but also into how the industry can respond to these changes through relevant solutions.

From Knowledge Sharing to Hands-On Experience

The insights from the seminar were then brought to life through the Skincare Innovation Circuit, which took participants through five interactive hubs:

  1. Cost Efficient Hub
  2. Active Innovation Hub
  3. Emollient Studio
  4. Pure Scent House – Fragrances
  5. Keychain and Polymer Studio

At each hub, participants explored different topics and solutions through product experiences and demonstrations, while also having the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the solutions directly.

The circuit concept made the seminar more than a knowledge-sharing session. It created a more interactive, engaging, and hands-on experience for participants.

Bringing Skincare Innovation Closer Through a Three-City Roadshow

The seminar was held as part of a three-city roadshow:

  • Yogyakarta – August 4, 2026
  • Jakarta – August 6, 2026
  • Surabaya – August 11, 2026

The strong participation throughout the seminar, from discussions and questions to mini quizzes and interactive activities, became an important part of the experience.

Ultimately, the future of intelligent skincare is shaped not only by the development of skincare active ingredients, but also by how technology, formulation, market insights, and collaboration come together.

Through its collaboration with BASF, Bahtera Adi Jaya continues to bring insights, technology, and skincare innovations closer to customers while helping create new opportunities for product development that respond to evolving industry needs.
