Shrimp health is one of the most critical factors in successful shrimp farming. Challenges such as bacterial infections, parasites, and digestive disorders can significantly affect shrimp growth, feed efficiency, survival rates, and overall farm productivity.

As part of its commitment to supporting the advancement of Indonesia's aquaculture industry, Bahtera Adi Jaya collaborated with Adisseo and Gihon to host the "Key Insights to Shrimp Health Management" Cluster Seminar on July 6, 7, and 9, 2026, across the Sumbawa region.

The seminar featured Martha Mamora, Farm Application Manager, Aquaculture APAC/ISC at Adisseo, who shared valuable insights into preventive shrimp health management strategies and the role of functional feed additives in supporting sustainable production.

Shrimp Health Challenges in Modern Aquaculture

Maintaining shrimp health involves much more than treating disease. It requires a comprehensive approach that supports shrimp performance throughout the entire production cycle—from stocking to harvest.

Bacterial diseases, parasitic infections, and digestive disorders can reduce survival rates, slow growth, worsen feed conversion ratios (FCR), and ultimately lower farm productivity.

At the same time, shrimp feed formulations continue to evolve. As alternative ingredients replace fishmeal and fish oil, producers need nutritional solutions that help maintain digestive function, metabolism, and the health of the shrimp hepatopancreas to ensure consistent production performance.

During the seminar, participants explored why preventive health management has become an essential strategy—not only for disease control but also for building stronger, healthier shrimp.

A Preventive Approach with Functional Feed Additives

One of the seminar's key topics focused on the role of functional feed additives in shrimp health management.

This preventive approach is designed to support gut health, strengthen shrimp resilience, and improve nutrient utilization, helping farmers achieve more sustainable productivity throughout the production cycle.

The seminar highlighted two solutions: Sanacore® GM and Lipogest®, both developed to support shrimp performance under a wide range of farming conditions.

Sanacore® GM: Supporting Shrimp Health Through Gut Health

Sanacore® GM is a functional feed additive developed to help reduce the impact of bacterial diseases and parasitic infections in both fish and shrimp farming.

It works by supporting a balanced gut microbiota, helping suppress pathogenic bacteria, and utilizing Quorum Sensing Inhibition technology to reduce bacterial virulence.

During the seminar, the following key benefits of Sanacore® GM were discussed:

  • Supports broad-spectrum disease prevention.
  • Helps reduce mortality associated with bacterial and parasitic infections affecting the digestive system.
  • Supports improved farming performance and productivity.

Field trials presented during the seminar also demonstrated improved survival rates against several major disease challenges, including EMS, EHP, vibriosis, WFS, and WSSV.

Lipogest®: Supporting Hepatopancreas Function and Feed Efficiency

In addition to disease management, efficient nutrient utilization has become a key factor in modern shrimp farming.

Lipogest® is a bile salts-based feed additive designed to support nutrient digestion and metabolism, particularly in feed formulations containing higher levels of plant-based ingredients.

The seminar explained that Lipogest® helps:

  • Support healthy hepatopancreas function.
  • Improve nutrient digestion and feed utilization.
  • Enhance energy availability for growth.
  • Enable the use of alternative feed ingredients, including reduced fishmeal and fish oil, without compromising production performance.

These benefits are becoming increasingly important as the aquaculture industry continues to adopt more sustainable feed formulations.

Strong Engagement from Shrimp Farmers

The Cluster Seminar in Sumbawa received an enthusiastic response from participants.

Throughout the discussion sessions, shrimp farmers actively shared their experiences and raised questions about the challenges they face in the field. Topics included disease management, feed performance, hepatopancreas health, and practical strategies for maintaining farm productivity under varying production conditions.

The active discussions reflected the industry's growing demand for practical knowledge and science-based solutions that can be applied directly on the farm.
